“How long have you been in the industry?”
I’ve been a stylist for almost 6 years now. I graduated from Concepts School of Cosmetology in Halifax, I decided to move to the Okanagan because I had some friends here who were always bragging about the weather.
“What techniques do you specialize in?”
I love doing short edgy cuts, undercuts & asymmetrical bobs. I really like using new cutting techniques for shaping and texture to get the cut to lay just right. For colour I love doing un-natural colours like brights or pastels, but I also really enjoy creating natural looking blondes as well.
“Why did you choose to become a stylist?”
I’ve wanted to be a hairdresser since I was a little kid. When I was younger I used to love going to the salon, I had the same stylist from when I was 5 until she moved away. When I went to hair school, that same stylist actually ended up being one of my teachers, it was crazy! I just love everything about the industry, I love the vibe & the energy of working in a salon.
“Describe your personal style.”
I get inspiration from 80’s glam metal, but translate it into a more toned down look. I would say I’m really alternative & edgy, but casual.
“Tell us about your worst personal haircut/hair day.”
I had a mushroom cut in the 1st grade, it made me look like a boy so I would wear dresses a lot which sucked because I really hated wearing dresses. That haircut still haunts me to this day… at my parents house they have one of those collage photo frames which includes my grad photo and the mushroom haircut is right next to it for everyone to see. It’s great.
“If you could be any Hollywood movie character, who would it be and why?”
Definitely Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. She was my idol growing up and she is badass.
“If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and could only take 3 albums with you, what would they be?”
That’s tough… but I’d have to say The Rock of Ages – Soundtrack, Motley Crue – Dr. Feelgood, and basically any Led Zeppelin album.
“If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and could only take 3 movies with you, what would they be?”
Well… Rock of Ages, obviously (*laughs), Castle in the Sky, and Detroit Rock City.
“What’s your most embarrassing moment?”
Umm, right now! But seriously, it’s hard to think of just one but what’s coming to mind is last week I went with some friends to play beach volleyball and we ended up joining these other people for a game. Went to bump the ball behind me and ended up just sending it straight into my face, knocking me down in the sand. So that was great, ball in the face in front of a bunch of strangers… yeah.
“We’re not trying to pick you up… but what’s your astrology sign?”
I’m a Capricorn. I don’t really buy into that stuff, but after a breakup I will check the compatibility of our signs and if it’s bad then at least I have something to blame it on!
“Do you have any nicknames?”
Not really, people mostly just call me Court for short. I do have one friend who calls me Turkey and I call her Chicken. I also may have an inappropriate one… but that’s just between some friends and I wouldn’t advertise it anywhere!
“What’s one product you cannot live without?”
Definitely Redken Spray Wax. I use it on all my short cuts, it gives you the same piece-iness and texture of a wax in a puck but it’s more malleable and less heavy.
