“How long have you been in the industry?”
I’ve been doing hair for about 2 years now. I was born & raised in Kelowna so when I decided to go to hair school I enrolled at MC College. I love working with people, I’m such a people person.
“Why did you choose to become a stylist/barber?”
I was in sales for 7 years and I didn’t want to pursue that career path any more so when my cousin opened her own salon and invited me to come work with her I decided to go out on a whim and jump into doing hair. It was a risk at the time but it worked out and I love it! I love the creativity and the freedom to create different looks and styles for people.
“What techniques do you specialize in?”
My favourite thing to do is balayage, it’s the biggest trend right now. I really like how the technique is open to your own creativity and your own style or approach, you have more freedom to create and you can be an artist with it. I really enjoy all aspects of doing hair but balayage is definitely my favourite.
“Describe your personal style.”
One day I could be super casual, another day dressed up. I have a wide range of styles, it’s not specific to any one look. I’d say I’m very adaptable.
“Tell us about your worst personal haircut/hair day.”
Ugh! Ok, I was blonde my whole life and when I was a teen I decided to go dark and then tried to go back to blonde. I went to a salon but not to my regular stylist (which was a mistake) and ended up coming out with yellow and red highlights on a dark base, like a ketchup & mustard situation! So I went back to my regular girl to have it fixed… it was definitely a terrible experience but I learned a lesson about colour correction for sure.
“If you could be any Hollywood movie character, who would it be and why?”
I’ve never been asked this before… I really enjoy Emma Stone- her personality, the style of movies she does, she seems like a really down to earth real person.
“If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and could only take 3 albums with you, what would they be?”
Shania Twain to remind me of my childhood. Also probably some acoustic chill singer songwriter stuff, and something that would be more upbeat, like top 40 hits.
“If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and could only take 3 movies with you, what would they be?”
Man on Fire, Into the Blue, and all the seasons of Grey’s Anatomy. That would keep me pretty busy.
“What’s your most embarrassing moment?”
I don’t really get embarrassed. I’m pretty easy going so nothing really gets to me in that sense.
“We’re not trying to pick you up…but what’s your astrology sign?”
Cancer. I’m on the cusp on Gemini and Cancer actually. I’ve got my daily horoscope on my phone (*laughs)
“Do you have any nicknames?”
My friends call me “Cfacc” pronounced see-fass – it’s basically just a play on my name “c” from Carmen and “facc” from my last name. I don’t know they came up with it and it’s always just stuck.
“What’s one product you simply cannot live without?”
Salty Dog from Evo – it’s awesome, I love how it gives you texture and the smell is amazing, also it’s not too heavy.
